Tracy Windsor
Peer Researcher
Tracy has first-hand knowledge of the transformative power of peer support and peer leadership. When Tracy was first diagnosed with a mental illness, she felt incredibly isolated and ashamed. She became involved in support groups, and was pleased to find a warm and welcoming community among her peers. Tracy soon took on a leadership role as support group facilitator, and then as a Peer Support Worker.
Through these roles, she found a new passion and purpose: supporting and empowering those who have had experiences similar to hers. With few opportunities to grow as a professional Peer Support Worker, Tracy applied to, and was accepted into, UBC’s Bachelor of Social Work program. As a social worker, she hopes to work towards promoting the paid involvement of Peers in the mental health system, and she is thrilled to be a part of the Imagining Inclusion project.
